Monster book illustration
In this post you can see my illustrations I did in 2021 for Monster Book by Draci Hlidka (Czech RPG system). At first I was hired only to illustrate the cover, but later it turned out to be much larger comission.
Zde se můžete podívat na ilustrace knihy monster, které jsem dělal v roce 2021. Nejprve mě Dračí hlídka oslovila, abych připravil ilustraci na obálku knihy. Nakonec z toho ale byla daleko větší zakázka, na které spolupracovalo 11 ilustrátorů! A já se podílel kromě ilustrace obálky ještě na vnitřních ilustracích a propagačních materiálech.
Cover illustration
The client wanted to have one of the monsters from the book on the cover – the plague raven. This creature was created by wild magic on a field where a great battle took place. By the influence of magic, a dead soldier came back from the dead, but changed. Somehow merged with the ravens that were flying over the fields…
Below you can see the original concept of the monster. At first I envisioned it more “beastly”, but the client wanted a more humanoid look.
Accompanying illustrations inside the book
The book contains 100 monster illustrations by 11 artists. Below you can see some of my illustrations.
Promotion illustration
The company wanted to promote the book using a video with animated illustrations. I was tasked to create 3 widescreen illustrations with separated layers so they can animate the charaters and backrounds. Two of the illustrations were actually one very large illustrations with different poses for characters. This way the animater could simulate the movement of the camera and change the expressions of the characters.
DM screen
The client liked the illustrations for the video so much, that they even decided to make a DM screen out of it…. I just had to enlarge it even more 🙂
